Application concept of Gripper Injector Chain
Gripper – clamping block of the injector chain, installed between the chain links (fig. gripper). The counter-rotating counter-chain injector operates by using drive chains manufactured with interlocking pickup blocks.
Gripper blocks are designed to minimize coiled tubing damage and can be machined to fit the circumference of the coiled tubing string or V-shaped to accommodate the outer diameter (OD) size of the coiled tubing. The chain drive assembly operates on the principle of frictional restraint, in which the CT Injector is loaded by opposing gripper blocks with sufficient applied normal force so that the resulting tangential friction forces are greater than the axial loads on the tubing (tension or compression).
